PENB (Energy Performance Certificate)
An official document assessing a building’s energy performance/efficiency (typically including an energy rating).
LCC (Life Cycle Costing)
An evaluation of total costs over the full life cycle of a building or system (investment, operation, maintenance, and replacement).

This project focused on life cycle cost analysis for multiple buildings within the airport complex. We compared different upgrade options for both the building envelope and building systems, evaluating total investment and operating costs across the full service life — not just the initial price tag.The outcome is a realistic, decision-ready basis for refurbishment planning, reflecting technical feasibility, expected component lifetimes, and user comfort.
design options compared across costs, operations and long-term sustainability
years of operation included in the building’s life cycle assessment
The life cycle cost assessment looked at the full performance picture — energy demand, maintenance needs, replacement cycles, and overall operational reliability. We placed particular emphasis on payback and achievable reductions in energy consumption. The analysis also accounted for future climate conditions and ensured alignment with the airport’s internal requirements for safety and uninterrupted operation.
Achieved lowest total cost
of costs come from building operation over the full life cycle
We translated the findings into clear tables and scenarios that enable an objective comparison of options and a confident choice of the best strategy. Instead of optimising for short-term savings, the project supports infrastructure managers in making decisions based on total life-cycle costs — strengthening long-term sustainability and ensuring public and private investment is used effectively.
